Earth is home to a lot of scary creatures, but they hardly compare to the animals that used to inhabit our planet.
One particularly threatening reminder of the world’s wild past was found on a beach in North Carolina last October. Once you get a look at this razor-sharp relic, you’ll be glad you didn’t exist at the same time its former owner did.
It was an otherwise normal day for Denny Bland until she came across something shocking on the shoreline of North Top Sail, North Carolina.
She’d stumbled upon the enormous tooth of a Megalodon shark. This species of shark was big—really big. So big, in fact, that the Megadolon made the T-Rex look puny in comparison.
The Megalodon reached lengths up to 60 feet. Luckily, it died out somewhere around 5 million years ago.
But this six-inch-long tooth might give you an idea of just how massive these bad boys were.
The tooth Denny found was probably swept up in the strong currents created by Hurricane Joaquin.
Let’s just hope this is all that we find of the Megalodon…
It’s crazy to imagine that the premise of some monster movies could have been reality a few million years ago.
As if great whites weren’t scary enough…
