You might not know it, but every time you shoot a “thumbs up” to someone, you’re letting them in on the type of personality you have.
Here’s the normal structure of your hand.
And here’s the first type of thumb. As the name would suggest, it’s a straight line up the back of your thumb.
Here it is in a photo. Pretty familiar, right? This type of thumb indicates a person is serious and direct. They’re more likely to be analytical than creative or whimsical.
This type of person also might play their cards close to the vest, so to speak, keeping secrets and not sharing a lot of their thoughts with others.
If you’re looking for a pop-culture example, Arnie as the Terminator is a pretty apt one.
Then, we’ve got the crooked thumb. As you can see, the back of it curves. It can curve a lot or a little, depending on the person.
It’s also called the “hitchhiker’s thumb,” and here’s a pretty extreme example.
It runs contrary to the straight thumb, meaning you’re more expressive than most if you have this type.
You’re still capable of being serious, of course, but it’s not your default disposition.
Lucky for us, people with curved thumbs and straight thumbs can get along just fine. In fact, they tend to complement each other…
…which is good news.
